Fifteen years after the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women's Beijing Platform for Action proclaimed that "shared power and responsibility should be established between women and men at home, in the workplace and in the wider national and international communities," people around the globe embrace the document's key principles. East African Community Citizens Favor Freer Labor Flow (Click for Details)

Services, capital, and labor should move more freely when the East African Community (EAC) common market opens Thursday, but people will still need permits to work in most of the five partner states. Although only Rwanda has eliminated work permits and Kenya looks to follow suit, Gallup surveys last year show the idea of moving freely for work within the EAC is popular in all countries.

Multi-Country poll- Global Economic Crisis Was Personal in Countries Far and Wide (Click for Details)

Gallup's Personal Economy Index before and after the global economic meltdown in 2008 shows the crisis touched everyday lives around the world. In 61 out of 96 countries, scores fell significantly, documenting a decline in economic situations at the personal and community level. Ireland led the declines, followed by other major economies such as Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Regional poll- Sub-Saharan Africans Bank on Family for Business Loans (Click for Details)

Sub-Saharan Africans would most likely turn to their families if they needed money to start a business, according to Gallup surveys of 18 countries in the region. Forty-two % of respondents spontaneously named "family" as their primary source for funds, while banks (16%) and friends (15%) were a distant second. Despite the emphasis on microfinance in recent years in sub-Saharan Africa, 4% mentioned these institutions.

Nigerians want Mr. President to Solve Power Problems(Click for Details)

A recent survey of Nigerians conducted by NOI Polls shows that the President Goodluck Jonathan’s targets are in line with the key concerns of the citizenry. A majority of the respondents (45%) said he should focus on power. 20% of Nigerians believe that the president should concentrate on jobs/employment, 12% listed electoral reform as priority while infrastructural development was mentioned by 9% of the respondents.

Sub-Saharan Africa Leads World in U.S. Approval (Click for Details)

Across 110 countries Gallup surveyed in 2009, median approval of U.S. leadership was 51%, up from 34% in 2008. Approval during President Barack Obama's first year in office topped 75% in 20 sub-Saharan African countries, with Kosovo, Ireland, and Albania joining them as the countries or areas most approving.

Gallup survey of 148 countries shows that the potential migrants give positive ratings to the leadership of those countries where they want to go to. his is true among migrants who would like to move to the United States -- the No. 1 desired destination worldwide -- and six other top destination countries that Gallup asked adults to rate the leadership of, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, France, and Germany.
